Launched in 1966, the Rotary Club of Manila Journalism Awards were organized to honor outstanding contributions of individuals in print, television, and radio and adopted as the perpetual participation of the Club during the annual observance of National Press Week.

The TOWER Awards (The Outstanding Workers of the Republic) was pioneered in 1975 by the Rotary Club of Manila as an annual search and recognition of the outstanding ?blue collar? workers of the country. It was then led by Manila Rotarians by Rtn. Blas Ople, RCM Past President Alberto Romulo, and Past District Governor Fil Reyes. Then, as today the Tower Awards aim at recognizing the contribution to economic development of the legions of skilled workers who constitute the backbone of our economy.
